UniversalGiving® does not take a cut on donations: 100% goes directly to the cause. UniversalGiving® uses the full amount of your donation to serve our NGO partners. This has always been a part of UniversalGiving®`s mission since its founding.

Many competitors take a cut on donations. These fees can be as high as 15%. For UniversalGiving®, 100% goes to the cause.

Pamela Hawley is the founder and CEO of UniversalGiving®. In 1996, she co-founded VolunteerMatch, a web-based nonprofit which has matched more than 2 million volunteers with nonprofits all across the nation. Inspired by her international experiences and life-long involvement in the community, she started UniversalGiving® in June of 2002 in order to raise awareness and serve the most impoverished communities in the world.

By creating a private account, you gain free access to special UniversalGiving® features. You can create an account now, and it only takes a minute. You'll be able to:

  • Find quality ways to donate
  • Find volunteer opportunities and volunteer
  • Request email updates on opportunities that match your interests
  • Create lists of favorites by country and issue
  • Track your own giving and volunteering requests and activities
  • Register your own NGOs

Once you create an account with UniversalGiving®, our tracking system will allow you to keep records on all of your donations, volunteer opportunities, and requests for information in one place. In this way, you can rely on UniversalGiving® for planning and organizing your philanthropic and community service activities.

Log in to your account, click on your name on the top right corner, then on “My Account”. You can edit your account information by selecting the appropriate tab.

For Donors:

We accept credit cards, Paypal, Apple Pay, Google Pay, and many more payment methods. Please see payment methods by clicking Donate Now. If you would like to donate via written check, please mail a check payable to UniversalGiving at our address listed on the Contact Us page.

For Volunteers:

Once you have found a volunteer opportunity that interests you, click on the green "I want to help!" button. This will send your questions directly to a representative of the selected NGO.

NGO stands for Nongovernmental Organization. UniversalGiving® partners with NGOs by providing a free service. UniversalGiving® allows NGOs to register their giving and volunteer opportunities and promotes their important work. UniversalGiving® features quality NGOs from all over the world and across more than 30 issues.

Visit NGO Services to register your NGO with UniversalGiving®.

You will need to Sign Up for an individual account with UniversalGiving®. Then you'll be able to register your NGO with UniversalGiving®.

Yes. Once you complete your organization's contact information, your information is saved, and you may stop at any time. To pick up where you left off, log into UniversalGiving®’s website using your username and password and click on "My Profile."

During the UniversalGiving® registration process, you will be prompted to set up a PayPal account and this will link you directly to PayPal’s website.

To set up a PayPal account for your NGO, you will need your organization’s bank account information. After your PayPal account is created you will need to return to your organization’s account on UniversalGiving® and add your PayPal login email address in the box provided.

After you complete the registration process, the UniversalGiving® team will review your information. If all of the required information has been included, the process will take up to 2 weeks. We will notify you once your organization's account has been approved and published on our site.

There are three ways to feature activities through UniversalGiving®: Projects, Volunteer, and Gift opportunities.

A Project is an opportunity listed by your organization, with a funding goal (usually $1000) and a specific timeline (usually one year).

A Volunteer opportunity allows people to serve with your organization. The volunteer opportunity can be:

  • On the ground in your local community
  • Global in the communities you serve
  • A remote opportunity
  • In your HQ office

Be sure to include if it is one-time or ongoing. Please provide specific details on the volunteer opportunity, so your organization can attract the best volunteers!

A Gift is an opportunity listed by your organization with a one-time donation gift. A Gift must have a description of its impact and donation amount (usually under $1000.).
