The Big Picture

Goal: $50,000
  $20,000 raised
In September 2017, Mexico was hit with the strongest earthquake in a century, at magnitude 8.2. Oaxaca state was devastated, with over 76 deaths and more than 11,000 homes damaged or destroyed. Over the last 2 years, SHE's representative in Mexico, Lorena Harp, has been working with local non-profits to provide Haines solar cookers and training to those who need them the most in earthquake disaster zones. She has carried out workshops reaching over 150 households cooking with wood or charcoal affected by the earthquake, and has worked with partners such as as Yoo Bee women?s collective and local government agencies to ensure follow-up for long-term adoption and impact. The Haines solar cookers were provided at heavily discounted rates by Roger Haines, a SHE Board member, and paid for by Oaxacan NGO Xquenda and Solar Household Energy. Lorena continues to forge alliances with organizations in Oaxaca to distribute solar cookers, gaining national media attention.

Impact of Your Donation
