Formal Education and Education for Nonviolence in Tultitlán, Mexico

The Big Picture

Goal: $25,000
  $6,000 raised
This is a holistic education project in which children become agents of change in their families and communities. The municipality of Tultitlán, State of Mexico suffers from extreme marginalization. Only 8.3% of the population is in the category of "not poor and not vulnerable" according to a 2017 government report. Many parents in Tultitlán earn their living working in the nearby landfill, cleaning and selling what they find in deliveries from garbage trucks.

Through this project we provide educational support to children from pre-school to middle school and workshops on forming values for nonviolence, in order to increase healthy relationships between children, parents, and teachers, reduce gang participation and addiction, and decrease teen pregnancy rates. In our participatory methodology, students, parents, and community members are actively involved in the holistic transformation of their community.

Impact of Your Donation

Donations will be used to provide homework help and tutoring, English and computer classes, a 6-week summer course, education for nonviolence Workshops, and annual Mini-Olympics event for students to practice values for non-violence, visits to children's homes to provide follow-up on their school progress, and application of surveys to students of education for non-violence to measure the changes in the way they resolve conflicts before and after the project.
