Our Ugandan partner is opening a dedicated women's hospital in 2019! But "hospital" doesn't really capture it -- think of it as a temporary home. It will be the first place a woman with obstetric fistula won?t have to feel ashamed.
Obstetric fistula is an injury that can develop during prolonged labor. It leaves the woman leaking urine or feces uncontrollably through a hole in her vagina. Ridicule, isolation and worsening poverty are all common consequences of the injury. The average Ugandan woman with fistula suffers for 10 years before receiving treatment.
Surgery can heal her body, but after years of trauma, she may not be ready to face the world.
With your help, we will prepare survivors for the world at our partner's new hospital. Our Empowerment & Reintegration Training provides emotional support to survivors as they learn job skills that will help them earn an income and reintegrate into their communities.
Your support can empower 10 women in Uganda by raising $5,750.
