The Junior Web Designer will help design brand new components and redesign pre-existing components for our newly revamped website (http://www.universalgiving.org). Join our growing Product Development team, working with senior management and website developers, to create beautiful and effective visual designs while furthering a worthy cause. Responsibilities include:
Recommend visual design changes for new website components and existing interfaces experienced by thousands of internet viewers around the world
Create visual concepts and engaging visual designs that build upon the consistency, quality, usability, and branding of our website
Implement design improvements that visually captivate our users and increase our results
Work with senior leadership to prioritize efforts, finalize solutions, deliver results, document key information, and manage projects through to completion
Research and provide recommendations on web design standards and guidelines
Contribute to strategic and tactical product planning
Collaborate with product development team to deliver with both quality and efficiency
Assist with cross-browser testing and debugging to maintain design integrity across environments
Qualifications:
1+ years experience
Proficiency designing for client-side web technologies JQuery, AJAX, HTML, CSS, and Javascript
Experience creating and updating designs in Adobe Photoshop
Knowledge of open source concepts, relational databases, web technologies, the DOM, and cross-browser compatibility issues
Understanding of basic software development concepts, software testing life cycles, and the Agile process
Strong desire to both expand pre-existing design ideas and create new designs from scratch
Ability to collaborate effectively and communicate clearly (written and verbal) with team members
Proactive, team player who thrives within a small team, fast-paced environment
An eye for clean, elegant frontend web design and UI
Strong commitment to usability and user experience
Passion for visual design of internet websites
Meticulous attention to detail
Interest in nonprofit work, international issues, philanthropy
Full support of the mission and vision of UniversalGiving™
Bonus Skills:
Experience with Responsive Web Design, a plus
Experience with web APIs including knowledge of Facebook, Twitter, and other social media web APIs
