Description

A co-initiative of GVN and GVN-Foundation, the Eat So They Can global fundraiser raises money for the Global Children's Fund which is distributed between our partners in Africa, South America, and Asia. What better way to experience first hand where the money raised from these events is sent than to volunteer with one of our partners in a GVN program? You could impact the lives of young people in Thohoyandou! Our program in South Africa has different options to choose from including working in day care centres and teaching/tuturing school children. All you need to decide is which one to you'd like to do!
 
Cost Details
A US$350 application fee (fully refundable if you decide not to go) will secure your place on the program. Once your application fee is paid the remainder of the cost depends on the program you choose: Youth Program (Thohoyandou): Cost for 2 weeks - US $1077 Cost for 1 month - US $1147 Cost for 6 weeks - US $1477 Cost for 2 months - US $1820 Cost for 10 weeks - US $2157 Cost for 3 months - US $2490 Cost for 4 months - US $3160 Cost for 5 months - US $3830 Cost for 6 months - US $4500 Reserve Program (Bronkhorstspruit): Cost for 4 weeks - US $1147 Cost for 5 weeks - US $1347 Cost for 6 weeks - US $1547 Cost for 7 weeks - US $1747 Cost for 8 weeks - US $1947

Skills Needed/ Experience
Youth Program:

This program is suitable for caring, motivated, and self-directed people. Volunteers involved in childcare should be able to display their mentoring experience, and motivate the students toward a positive future. Volunteers involved in teaching do not require a teaching qualification but they need to be confident in their subject and preferably have, or be studying towards a university degree.

Reserve Program:

Volunteers require no qualifications or background in conservation, just a willingness to learn and a desire to contribute. Volunteers are expected to work approximately 7 hours per (week) day. Should there be some emergency or pressing urgency in completing the work, volunteers may be asked to work longer.
 
Detailed Location Information
Volunteers must be:

* in good physical condition, and be able to walk reasonable distances
* 18 years old or over
* able to speak English
* able to work with a minimum of supervision
* obtain a police clearance from your home country prior to volunteering
* have some knowledge and confidence in subject areas mentioned above
* able to tolerate living closely with a large number of domestic pets (dogs and cats) - reserve program

Youth Program:
Placements are primarily in the main town of Thohoyandou and its surrounding villages: Manamani, Dzwerani, Shayandima, and Itsane.

Reserve Program:
The program is located in Bronkhorstspruit approximately 45 minutes from Johannesburg and 30 minutes from Pretoria.

Eat So They Can is an international fundraiser that invites citizens of the world to participate in what is collectively one huge dinner party; where something as simple as sharing a meal with friends can help stop child poverty.
