Background

Date Founded: 1999
Number of Staff: 4

Description of Services:
By networking with community leaders, we are able to assess local needs using grassroots information and requests. The Hope Alliance provides medical clinics, trains health workers and supplies existing clinics and hospitals with equipment and supplies. Our projects encompass basic short-term and long-term medical care, assistance in developing educational and literacy programs, water purification systems and instruction and partnership in micro-enterprise.
History:
The vision to create The Hope Alliance sprang from a series of humanitarian relief projects organized and accomplished through the partnership of John Hanrahan, a family practice physician and Joe Mitchell, a minister. Inspired by the success of these projects, the support of their community and the great needs that were apparent, Hanrahan and Mitchell founded the Hope Alliance in 1999 to accomplish and expand similar, ongoing projects.
Accomplishments & Progress:
Today, the goals of The Hope Alliance are carried out by dedicated, passionate staff and hundreds of volunteers who have donated close to 53,000 hours of service. The Hope Alliance has shipped over $11 million in medical supplies and humanitarian aid internationally and provided care for tens of thousands of patients in medical, surgical, vision and dental clinics. We have completed many rural water projects, reducing death and disease and freeing countless hours carrying water to more productive uses. The Hope Alliance established numerous permanent medical clinics in remote areas and continues to help in staffing and training local health workers.
