Full Description
| Description
|
| WorldTeach operates programs in the Federated States of Micronesia on the island states of Pohnpei and Kosrae. Volunteers receive 3-4 weeks of orientation, including training in local languages, cultural adaptation, and teaching methodology. Volunteers then complete a ten-month teaching contract with the Department of Education.
Volunteers should be prepared to teach math, science, or English, and to be flexible to the needs of the school.
Pohnpeian and Kosraean are the native languages of Pohnpei and Kosrae, respectively, but English is the official language of the Federated States of Micronesia. High school classes are taught in English, although many students are not yet conversational in English, while others are completely fluent.

Location Information
|
The islands of Pohnpei and Kosrae are lush, with many waterfalls, extensive mangrove swamps (home to mangrove crabs!) a high, mountainous center and small villages along the coast. Unlike Pohnpei, Kosrae has no barrier reef, but is ringed by sandy beaches and colorful coral reefs.
On both Pohnpei and Kosrae, volunteers will live with one to several other volunteers in simple, furnished apartments or houses. Housing is provided by the Departments of Education and volunteers will receive a living stipend.
