Description

Most WorldTeach volunteers in Ecuador teach English in university or community classes with adult students. In some cases, volunteers may also have the opportunity to work with high school or elementary school students. The majority of teaching placements are in urban areas and larger towns, though more rural placements are sometimes available.

Year-long programs depart in both March and September. Both groups receive a month of orientation training, and teach for approximately 11-12 months (time commitment required).

 
Cost Details
Your fee enables us to provide a variety of important services, not the least of which is finding someone like you who is qualified and willing to serve as a teacher in an under-resourced school in a developing country. Aside from that one all-important service to our partner countries, however, WorldTeach services are primarily designed to support you, the volunteer. Whether it is pre-departure preparation, in-country training and support, or help in the case of an emergency, all of these services are provided in an effort to enhance your safety and security while making you the most effective teacher you can be.

The year-long program requires volunteers to be native English speakers with a Bachelor's degree (in any subject), flexibility, and openness to teach various ages and types of students. Additionally, volunteers participating in the Ecuador Year program must be free of communicable diseases in order to secure a visa.

The ability to communicate in English is highly valued throughout Ecuador because of the country's developing tourist industry as well as Ecuadorians' desire for improved access to the global economy. Tourism, both cultural and environmental, has become an increasingly viable means of generating revenue in this South American nation. Knowledge of English also helps Ecuadorians open their businesses to a wider audience, leading to increased opportunity.

Volunteer placements in Ecuador are based on the best match between the needs of the host institution and the personal qualifications of the volunteers. Volunteers may be placed independently or with a small group of other volunteers.
