Description

WorldTeach volunteers in Costa Rica teach English at public primary schools (first through sixth grades) under the auspices of the Ministry of Education. Most teaching placements are in small towns in rural areas throughout the country.
 
Cost Details
The program cost includes pre-departure information and preparation, round-trip international airfare, health insurance, in-country orientation, transportation to your site, meals and housing during orientation and throughout your teaching service, and 24-hour field support. During your stay, you will receive a stipend of approximately $100/month towards your daily living expenses.

Skills Needed/ Experience
The year-long program requires a Bachelor's degree (in any subject), flexibility, and a desire to teach young children. You need not be a US citizen, but must be a native English speaker.
 
Detailed Location Information
With no standing army and two scenic coastlines, Costa Rica attracts a large number of foreign tourists every year. This influx of foreign money forms the centerpiece of Costa Rica's economy. Consequently, the country's Ministry of Education (Ministerio de Educación Publica, or MEP) views the learning of a foreign language, especially English, as essential in preparing its children for success in a global economy.

WorldTeach has been helping the MEP reach this goal since 1989, when the first group of WorldTeach volunteers arrived in the country.
