Volunteers may teach one or more of the following subjects: math, science, drafting, English, computer skills, applied technology. This list may change based on the needs in the country at the time of enrollment.

Cost Details
All costs (including airfare, insurance, food, housing, training, conferences, and 24-hour in-country field staff support) are fully funded by the Department of Education of American Samoa. US$2,000 deposit required.

Language Needed
English (fluent)

Skills Needed/ Experience
WorldTeach year-long programs are open to qualified individuals who have bachelor's degrees and are looking for a meaningful volunteer teaching experience. English language fluency is required. Prior teaching experience is helpful but not required.

Interest in American Samoa, teaching and international development are pluses. Successful volunteers will be mature, resourceful, and have exhibited public service and community participation. It is important that volunteers be flexible and open-minded, capable of adapting to new situations and able to provide sensitive leadership with various ages and groups. Experience in leadership would be an advantage. A positive attitude, even in frustrating or difficult circumstances, is vital.

Detailed Location Information
American Samoa is a territory of the United States, and as such has access to many federal programs.

Educational standards are moderately high for the Pacific. Nearly 30% of high school seniors attend college. Of the 30 schools in the country, only two principals do not have master's degrees, although 69% of the teachers have only associate's degrees.

The native Samoan culture is alive and vibrant in American Samoa and volunteers will receive language lessons in Samoan during orientation.

Volunteers will live in teacher housing on Tutuila and receive a monthly stipend for living expenses.
