The Big Picture
South Africa's township youth love to listen to and play the marimba. SAEP's Arts Program provides them the opportunity to learn and perform on this most African of instruments.
SAEP has offered marimba lessons as part of its Arts Program for three years. This instrument was chosen because it is (1) a popular African instrument (2) relatively easy to learn, and (3) capable of being played in a group as well as individually.
The instrument has proven to be an outstanding success with SAEP's youth. SAEP has been given 2 marimbas sets for use by the students, but needs to finance tranport and stipends for the Marimba instructor, as well as teaching materials for the classes.
Impact of Your Donation
Donations will enable SAEP to hire qualified marimba instructors for weekly lessons after school.
