Background

Date Founded: 1988
Number of Staff: 85

Description of Services:
With hundreds of caring supporters and a unique partnership with the Vietnamese people, East Meets West is expanding its humanitarian relief programs from Danang into two new Provinces, Quang Tri and Quang Ngai, to continue providing quality programs for enhancing the education and health of children; building and renovating vital institutions such as schools, hospitals and medical clinics and providing clean and safe water systems for home and agricultural use.
History:
East Meets West was born from LeLy Hayslip's dream of helping to heal the wounds from war between the United States and Vietnam. From the cornerstones of LeLy's early projects, Mothers Love Pediatric Clinic and Peace Village Medical Center, East Meets West has grown to be a highly respected NGO in Vietnam.

Although LeLy is no longer with East Meets West, the people of Vietnam will always be grateful for her vision and gifts. In the early 1990s, a grant from the United States Agency for International Development allowed us to construct the Village Of Hope.

In 1996, Dr. Charles F. Craft, an American dentist, established East Meets West Dental Clinic for free dental care for children.
Accomplishments & Progress:
From 1998 to 2006, we have provided over 100,000 individuals in Central Vietnam with access to safe water through the construction of filtered water projects tapping deep wells.

East Meets West has built the first modern Learning and Resource Center in Vietnam. Recently EMW built the Hue Cardiovascular Center which doubled the capacity of Central Vietnam to perform cardiac surgery to children and adults.

Village of Hope, in Danang, is home to 160 orphaned, disadvantaged, disabled and at-risk children. Since 1993, more than 150 children have graduated from Village of Hope. Some return to their original homes while others continue on to higher education, advanced vocational training or enter the workplace with marketable skills.
