| The DREAM Project is searching for volunteers 21 years and older to serve children ages 3-18 from August 22, 2012 to June 1, 2013. Volunteers work at the DREAM Center, located in Cabarete, and in the Batey Caraballo, a more rural setting on the north coast of the Dominican Republic. Volunteers work in a variety of teaching and mentoring roles. Teaching positions include the following subjects: literacy, math, computers, art, music and sports. Teaching or mentoring experience with children is desired. Advanced Spanish skills or fluency is required for all positions. Placements are based on Spanish speaking abilities and experience. DREAM volunteers have the opportunity to work in the areas of education and community development, and can lead youth groups, operate libraries and computer labs, run summer camps, teach English, organize community committees, teach preschool children, offer adult education classes and train local teachers. Half-year positions are also available.

Cost Details

| Please note: Fellowships are available for those who need financial assistance, and most do not end up paying the full program fee. Certified teachers receive a reduced fee, and there is also a Dominican Heritage Scholarship available.
The cost of the DREAM volunteer program includes pickup and drop off at the Puerto Plata airport, accommodations, all required training workshops, oversight at the local schools, volunteer cultural excursions, and a living stipend (which is allocated to cover expenses such as meals, cell phone use, transportation to worksites, laundry, etc.) Please note this fee does not include airfare, health insurance, or personal spending money!
