The Big Picture
Two strong earthquakes hit West Sumatra in March 2007, destroying 15,000 houses. Another three earthquakes struck the region on September 12 and 13, 2007, killing another 25 people and leveling over 18,000 houses.
Build Change's expertise in earthquake-resistant housing reconstruction in tsunami-devastated Aceh, Indonesia will be used to rebuild safe, sustainable, comfortable houses with the survivors of these most recent devastating earthquakes in Indonesia.
Impact of Your Donation
(1) Permanently upgrade the skills of local builders through intensive, hands-on construction training programs
(2) Work directly with the homeowners to identify and design in low or no-cost modifications to current ways of building
(3) Print and distribute simple design and construction guides and posters
(4) Hire local construction professionals to execute these programs
(5) Train technical school students on drawing reading, design and construction of earthquake-resistant houses.
