Quick Facts

To improve the lives of children in Nepal who have a disability, are orphaned or are disadvantaged. TRIFC raises funds through donations, grants and hands-on fundraising activities. With the funds raised we provide financial support to existing non-profit organizations in Nepal that share our goals and vision. We participate in project planning, coordination and implementation. We raise awareness of the living conditions of these children by documenting and publicizing our project work.

Background

Date Founded: 2005
Number of Staff: 0

Description of Services:
We are driven by the urgent needs in this part of the world, particularly concerning children with a disability, orphaned and disadvantaged children. Children who have a disability, or are orphaned in this society are often denied education. They suffer discrimination, degradation and inhumane treatment. With the help of Rotary grant funding and funds that we have raised from individual and family foundation donations, we have provided surgeries, therapy and prosthetics for children with disabilities; paid for food, tuition, school supplies and furnished a kitchen at an orphanage; built a library/recreation hall at a school for the deaf, among other projects.
History:
Although we are a relatively new organization, our president, Rob Rose has a eleven-year history of project work in Nepal through his Rotary Club (Bellevue Rotary Club, Bellevue, WA) and individually by raising funds to support orthopedic surgeries, sponsoring a blind woman for her college studies and helping to fund projects at the Kathmandu School for the Deaf. Through our Rotary contacts in Nepal, we have many trusted friends and advisors. This also encourages involvement and participation from the Nepali side, which promotes long-term sustainability. Getting the local people emotionally involved and invested in these projects is definitely part of our "grass-roots" focus.
Accomplishments & Progress:
2007-Kathmandu School for the Deaf- Provided school scholarships to 15 children and 'coaching' classes to help them prepare for final exams . Durbar School - We remodeled and repaired the girl's bathroom, purchased supplies for the science lab, bought computer equipment for the computer classes, and course books for kids. Nandumaya Orphanage Support- Provided school tuition funding for 10 children. We also provided funds for clothing, rent and school supplies.
DNC (Disabled Newlife Center)-We have a medical fund to cover the cost of orthopedic surgeries for the children and physical therapy. This past year we also set up a higher education fund so that these children can advance their knowledge in college or through vocational training.

Additional Information

Additional Background Information:
We currently provide support for three different organizations: a center for children with disabilites with about thirty children, The Kathmandu School for the Deaf with 300 students and a small orphanage. We prioritize the needs at these different organizations and provide funding for them as we are able. Several new projects for 2007-08 - 8 Graduate students at Seattle University are providing a business and marketing plan for a proposed coffee/tea café located in Kathmandu that would be predominantly run by people with disabilities. After the studies are complete, we intend to find grant funding for start-up costs. We are also providing support for a proposed "Disability Awareness Campaign" for Nepal through Rotary Internationall. This program's goal is to change the general perception that a child with a disability is cursed or suffering from a past-life sin. Uplifting this neglected segment of Nepali society would be a fantastic gift made possible through Rotary and TRIFC.
Additional Affiliations:
We often partner with Rotary Clubs in Nepal to help with fund administration. Our president, Robert Rose has been a Rotarian for 21 years.
We also partner with the Nepali Children's Fund in the U.K. to help children at the Newlife Disabled Center.
