The Big Picture
Child Survival Project: The Child Survival Project was established to look after the welfare of the children of sex workers who are registered with Tasintha in order to protect them from initial or continued exposure to sexual exploitation. The project also focuses on children living on the streets who have already become involved with the sex trade. The goal of the project is to rehabilitate these children, equip them with life skills and awareness that enable them to make positive decisions for themselves, and reintegrate them into formal schools. Tasintha provides scholarships to children aged eight to fourteen in the form of school fees, uniforms, and school supplies. Participants of this program who have no relatives to take care of them are placed in Tasintha-identified foster homes and orphanages. Basic health services at Tasintha?s clinic are available to all participants. For children and youth aged fifteen to twenty, Tasintha provides training in the same income-generating activities that are available to the women involved in Tasintha?s other programs, such as sewing, automobile mechanics, bookkeeping, book binding, hotel catering, baking, and animal husbandry.
