The Big Picture
69,122 killed. 17,991 missing. 373,606 injured. 200,000 buildings destroyed including 7,000 schools, over 2 million homeless, and 10 million people now living below the poverty line after the May 12 magnitude 7.9 earthquake. So much of this devastating loss could have been prevented with better building design and construction. Build Change has been working with tsunami and earthquake survivors in Indonesia for over 3 years to rebuild earthquake-resistant houses with safe, comfortable, sustainable techniques. Help us support the earthquake survivors in China to recover and rebuild so that they never have to face such a tragedy again.
Impact of Your Donation
Build Change will work with homeowners, builders, government officials, and local non-profit organizations to rebuild earthquake-resistant houses. We (1) work directly with single family homeowners to identify and design in low or no-cost modifications to current ways of building, (2) permanently upgrade the skills of local builders through intensive, hands-on construction training programs, (3) update and distribute Build Change's design and construction guidelines in Chinese.
