The Big Picture
The Sanaga-Yong Chimpanzee Rescue Center in Cameroon, Africa seeks volunteers.
Volunteers work with Cameroonian staff, buy food/supplies in nearby villages, help with chimpanzee care , maintain equipment, assist with construction, painting, and manual tasks. A 6 month minimum commitment is required.
Contact with chimpanzees is limited to caring for babies in the nursery.
For those with veterinary or medical training; mechanical, engineering, electrical, construction skills, some requirements are flexible.
REQUIRED: French language - good conversational ability Experience living in a developing country Work experience as part of group or team
PREFER: Fluency in English Ability to drive manual transmission truck Experience working with chimpanzees or great apes
Volunteers responsible for roundtrip travel, immunizations, and visa. Accommodations and vegetarian meals provided.
Impact of Your Donation
Donations are used to provide life-saving care for the 66 orphaned chimpanzees at the Sanaga-Yong Chimpanzee Rescue Center; rescue operations to confiscate illegally held chimpanzees; and an extensive public education program that includes television and radio spots. Our mission is to protect orphan chimpanzees and to fight for the conservation of the remaining free-living wild chimpanzees. When possible, we aim to release chimpanzees into protect wildlife areas.
