In Nepal, half of the children under the age of 5 are malnourished, according to the World Health Organization (WHO). Many of these children die each year, either directly from the lack of appropriate diet or from the illnesses that are exascerbated by malnutrition.
As terrible as this news is, there is a true silver lining. When the parents or other caregivers of these children are taught the proper preparation of local foods and educated about nutrition, their children can live long and healthy lives.
The Nutritional Rehabilitation Homes (NRH) of the Nepal Youth Foundation provide caregivers with this education simultanously with the restoration to health of their severely malnourished children. The results are miraculous.
With an investment of $260, in just 5 weeks, desperately weak and starving children are returned to vitality and leave with parents equipped to care for them in good health.
