In many communities struck by frequent or even periodic bouts of drought, many wells are quickly dried up and abandoned. As global warming makes patterns of drought more pronounced and population numbers expand in the developing world, there is a need to rehabilitate once-abandoned wells by carrying out further drilling and pumping to meet the growing demand for water. The gift allows us to pay for the drilling equipment and labor required to rehabilitate one existing well. This would provide water for cooking, drinking, sanitation and agriculture and benefit many lives, because in some communities, as many as ten thousand people share a single well.
