The UN Development Program has identified the province of Sulu in Mindanao, Philippines as one of the most impoverished areas of the world, comparable to Malawi in Africa.
There are close to 100,000 students in the province's elementary and high schools. Most have no books or chairs, and sanitation and clean water are virtually non existent, leaving children at huge risks of waterborne diseases. In addition, many grow up under traumas of war, terrorism and periodic displacement.
Several measures in our integration of education and public health involve digging drainage ditches outside of school facilities, providing septic tanks and restrooms for boys and girls. Your contribution of $20 will provide basic health needs to a classroom of about 40 to 60 children.
