Quick Facts

Malaria is the leading cause of morbidity and mortality in Uganda and is responsible for up to 40% of all outpatient visits, 25% of all hospital admissions and 14% of all hospital deaths (data from Ugandan Ministry of Health). Malaria is particularly dangerous for pregnant women and children under five. . The World Health Organization recently reported that Uganda has the world?s highest incidence of malaria.
Uganda Village Project is fighting malaria by establishing mosquito net supply chains in each of our ?Healthy Villages? as well as conducting community outreaches and following up with each person who buys a net. The nets we provide meet standards set by the WHO. They are insecticide-treated and last for five years, even with washing. They are also incredibly durable (made of polyethylene, as opposed to the government-distributed polyester nets), and may therefore be re-treated after five years for continued use. While such high-quality nets are expensive, we subsidize the price greatly to make them affordable. We designate one volunteer from the community as the village ?net distributor,? and supply this individual with a constant stock of nets to sell to their neighbors.
Each of our high-quality mosquito nets sleeps 2 or 3 children, reducing their chance of contracting malaria by up to sixty percent (based on WHO statistics). Please protect up to six children from malaria by giving two holiday mosquito nets, for $20.
