Background

Date Founded: 2004
Number of Staff: 1

Description of Services:
Our work is to design, development, facilitate the implementation and monitor operations of the Families for Orphans(tm) communities to be built in developing countries. Each community will be an economic development with businesses that create jobs, job skills training, food and profits to make the community economically self-sustaining. Products produced will be sold for profit to finance family style orphan care for 150 children and 60 parents and grandparents in each community,

By designing and creating self-sustaining, green and family-style communities in which orphans are adopted by real parents, orphans will receive quality education and learn practical family living and job skills for their and their country's future.
History:
O.F.O.C. began its work in Vietnam (Sep 2006). Partnership was established with Humanitarian Support Company (HSC) and Vietnam Aid Society for Disabled Children (VASDC). In addition, our team met with the President of Vietnam, current and former Vice Presidents, Prime Minister and other officials and supporters. The outcome of these meetings was strong desire to see the Families for Orphans(tm) Project in Vietnam and the beginning of government support to that end.

Ninh Binh province in Vietnam provided land and O.F.O.C. was working toward fundraising.

Unfortunately, economic difficulties in the country have prevented funding from coming forth.

Thus, the current focus has been turned to implementing Families for Orphans(tm) in Mexico.
Accomplishments & Progress:
University of Colorado College of Architecture has completed a Master Plan for Orphan Community-Mexico. It may be seen on our website.

Our affiliate nonprofit - Nuestra Familia Comunidades de Huérfanos, S. C. has been established in Mexico to implement the project.

Colorado School of Mines has completed a bio-digester design for converting waste to gas for cooking and heating.

Metro State college has designed our computer network system.

We are currently in discussions with both state and federal government individuals in Mexico to determine where the project will be built.

We are currently raising capital for implementation of the plan that has
been completed for the Mexico community.

Additional Information

Additional Background Information:
There are tens of thousands of parents in our world who want to adopt children from orphanages, and yet they are not able to adopt.

Three key Obstacles To Adoption include:
1. Cost: the cost to adopt tends to range between $10,000 and $40,000. Many potential parents are not able to afford these fees, even though they could easily support another child in their family.
2. Bureaucracy: It takes months and many times years to process an adoption from start to finish. For the founder of our nonprofit to adopt his two sons, it took five years.
3. Limited resources: many potential parents do not have an income that meets the legal requirements, or perhaps a home with an extra bedroom, or the square footage required by various agencies.
THIS PROJECT HELPS TO OVERCOME THESE OBSTACLES BY USING BUSINESS PROFITS TO PAY FOR ADOPTIONS, HAVING OUR ATTORNEYS TO DEAL WITH THE BUREAUCRACY AND HAVING GOOD JOBS AND HOMES FOR THE FAMILIES.
