The Big Picture
When Operation USA responded to Hurricane Mitch in November 1998, it was immediately apparent that we would have to make a long-term commitment to those affected by the devastation. Relief led to rebuilding and then development. Operation USA has focused its efforts in one village close to the Honduras border: Santa Rosa.
Santa Rosa, over these 10 years, has been transformed from a disaster site to a healthy, productive, self-sustaining community.
Operation USA rebuilt 42 homes; built a clinic, child care center, a park, a library and a community kitchen. Established an extensive irrigation system, a "micro-hydropower" electrical system, made 500 microfinance loans to village women, built a village bakery, village market, sewing cooperative, a computer learning center, a baseball team and helped incorporate a village-based NGO.
Impact of Your Donation
Your donation will help Operation USA fund micro-credit loans for 100 families in the village of Santa Rosa, Nicaragua, and provide student scholarships, books, uniforms, hot lunches, and computer training.
