The Big Picture
We are working in partnership with CHOICE Humanitarian and Choice Kenya, to identify para professional village health workers (VHW) from the Samburu District, and provide 20 days of training in basic first aid preventative medicine. Our goal is to improve the health of people who live in southeastern Kenya (a predominantly tribal and Muslim area that has been virtually forgotten by the government and has little contact with outside charities). The program will include 30 villages initially, and is expected to affect 100,000 people. The project will provide regional training for community health-care workers (VHW) who will conduct village health assessments to assist in improving maternal and infant mortality rates with expected measurable results within 3 years. The program is expected to reduce infant mortal-ity by 50%.
Impact of Your Donation
Matumbi Village Dispensary: we are helping the village of Matumbi complete a village health dispensary and build a nice home for a professional nurse midwife to help with the Ministry's recruiting efforts. We also plan to build latrines and a water catchment system. Neonatal Resuscitation Training for Doctors and Nurses: a team from Logan and Salt Lake will train 20 doctors and nurses at the Msambweni Hospital. This will be a "train the trainer" model.
