The Big Picture
SAEP's Music Programme has recently began to include Marimba lessons as part of its curriculum. This instrument was chosen because it is (1) quick to learn, (2) satisfying in its sound (unlike the recorder!), (3) capable of being played in a group environment, and (4) of African origin.
As such, the instrument has proven to be an outstanding success with our learners. However, having no instruments of our own to offer them, we have had to drive up to an hour for lessons on borrowed marimbas at AmaAmbush, meaning that often the learners are kept from home until after 5pm.
Impact of Your Donation
A marimba set costs R17500 (~$2210) from AmaAmbush Productions.
One lesson with an experienced teacher: R200 (~$25 )
30 Annual Lessons: R6000 per school per year (~$758)
Lessons for each of 4 schools: R24 000 per year (~$3031)
The total for the Marimba set and the lessons for one year would be R41 500 (~$5241).
Our first priority, however, is the Marimba set. The lesson cost can be worked out at a later stage.
