The Big Picture
Many poor young girls are sold into domestic servitude, factory work, and the sex trade. In 2008, working with a local charity, Society Welfare Action Nepal (SWAN), Nepal Orphans Home (NOH) opened a third Papa's House in Lamahi, Nepal for 26 Kamalari girls. SWAN rescues the young girls after sale into servitude and runs programs to discourage this practice. SWAN receives little external funding, outside of the support of NOH. Two former Kamalari girls have been hired as didis (female caretakers) and one of the older girls from Papa's House in Dhapasi is now working as a manager at Papa's House III. Two buildings that were in poor shape have been restored to use for Papa's House III and stocked with the required furniture and kitchen equipment by NOH. In addition to attending school, the girls take part in sewing and cooking classes. Funding for the support and expansion of the home for these girls is sought. NOH would like to be able to save more Kamalari girls.
Impact of Your Donation
Donations will be used to rescue young girls who have been sold into servitude by 'buying out' their contracts. The girls will be safely sheltered, provided for, and educated. Donations will also be used to refurbish the home, support the schooling and training of the Kamalari girls, and assist SWAN in its outreach efforts to eradicate the horrific practice of selling young girls. To adequately provide for each rescued girl requires $800 a year.
