Civilian displacement is a premeditated war strategy to seize land ownership and control. The UN refugee agency ranks Colombia second only to Sudan in its number of internally displaced persons. There are more displaced persons in Bogota than in anywhere else in Colombia. Social services provide inadequate support to families. Without government support structure or income or savings, displaced families have no other option but to live in a tiny rented room or build precarious shacks.
Given Colombia's recent political and economic crisis, Servivienda, an affiliate of The Resource Foundation, created a fund to donate part of a home's cost to the poorest families (usually headed by single or widowed mothers) but still needs additional funds to finance 100% of a house's construction for the neediest cases.
You can help Servivienda build a home by donating $1,000 for a house's construction. Buyers make a $100 downpayment, thus covering 50% of the cost. Servivienda finances the rest.

About The Resource Foundation
The Resource Foundation strives to empower the disadvantaged in Latin America and the Caribbean so that they can gain the skills, knowledge and opportunities to improve their lives. We do this by ensuring that donors' support goes to self-help projects being implemented by reputable and effective non-governmental organizations in the region that are familiar with the needs of the population they serve and experienced and knowledgeable enough to ensure the impact and success of the projects.
