History:

Heartland International was founded in 1989 to apply the resources of Chicago and the MIdwest to international development.

Accomplishments & Progress:

Have worked with over 1500 participants in 31 countries over the past 20 years.

Developed a national association in Tanzania for women business owners.

Currently developing a program for young entrepreneurs training in Kenya.

Provided education reform/civic education professional development training for Egypt, Indonesia, East Africa.

VOLUNTEERS: Heartland International offers opportunities for Chicago-area residents to host international participants in their homes for one week to 6 week periods during programs. 10-week internships are available to qualified undergraduate, graduate and post graduate students (non-paid).

DONATIONS: The grants that fund Heartland International's programs do not cover all costs. Supplemental donations are used for enriching the cultural programs, evaluation and monitoring activities to ensure project sustainability and for making ongoing communication and networking tools available to program participants when the program is concluded.
