The Big Picture
The powerful earthquake that rocked the impoverished nation of Haiti on Tuesday, January 12, has caused untold damage and destruction in the densely populated areas in and around Port-au-Prince. It is estimated that 3 million people - about a third of Haiti's population - were affected. Current reports place the number of casualties at 50,000 but the number could be much larger as responders lack the supplies and infrastructure to care for the wounded. In response, The Resource Foundation is working to mobilize resources to ensure that support reaches those affected by this tragedy.
Several of its local partner organizations in Haiti, including Esperanza International and others on the ground, are coordinating relief efforts to meet immediate necessities as well as mid- to long-term needs that will facilitate reconstruction and rebuilding efforts.
