Earthquakes don't kill people, poorly built buildings do.
Another 230,000 deaths that could have been avoided. It is time for homeowners to rebuild safe and permanent housing. Build Change's work in Haiti since the devastating earthquake has already resulted in:
-1,402 BUILDERS TRAINED: In safe housing design and construction methods appropriate for Haiti (44 trainings; 3 or 4 day sessions).
-2,670 HOMEOWNERS TRAINED: in safe housing design and construction methods (50 trainings; ½ day each).
-Development of training resources appropriate for Haiti, and HIRED and MENTORED 71 HAITIAN TECHNICAL STAFF who deliver the training and provide technical assistance to builders, homeowners and government staff.
Our important work has resulted in over 24,000 people living in houses that will not collapse on them in the next earthquake in Indonesia and China; and we will continue expansion of Build Change's proven, effective post-earthquake housing reconstruction model to Haiti.
