The Big Picture
In 2008, Cuba was struck by hurricanes Gustav and Ike which wreaked havoc throughout the island. Operation USA began a hurricane relief project starting in Pinar del Rio and expanding in 2009 to cover the areas of greatest need outside Havana.
2009: A year of change in US-Cuba Policy. Hopefully, the terms of the US Embargo will change and doctors from the USA will once again be able to travel to and work freely in Cuba.
Operation USA provides children with essential medical materials. The supplies are sent to partner hospitals, such as Juan Manuel Marquez Pediatric Hospital or William Soler National Pediatric Hospital, both in Havana, Cuba. Another element of CMAP was "Medical Bridges." Cuban doctors traveled to the US to visit Operation USA's medical warehouses for supplies, then local Los Angeles pediatric hospitals.
Impact of Your Donation
Your donation will help Cuban children receive a variety of medical supplies and knowledge. There is always a need for all types of medical supplies for the care of all children. With the US embargo, humanitarian efforts by Operation USA are necessary for the health of the youngest of Cubans. New donations in 2009 will be used for both hurricane relief and to support children's health programs.
