The Big Picture
In 1996, Mano a Mano started by constructing two clinics in communities of displaced miners. Villages donated land and provided hundreds of hours of volunteer labor to complete construction. Mano a Mano donated all equipment and supplies. Since that beginning, Mano a Mano has constructed and opened a total of 100 community clinics. In 2008, its clinics had 417,230 patient visits, with 1,791,832 since the programs' inception. Overall, Mano a Mano clinics have vaccinated 293,369 women and children, delivered 8,894 babies, gave personal health instruction to 564,987 individuals, and made health care accessible to over 1,000,000 of Bolivia's poorest citizens.
Mano a Mano has a successful, low-cost, community-oriented approach to constructing and operating clinics in previously unserved rural communities. Of the 100 clinics Mano a Mano built, 87 are now financially independent of funding from Mano a Mano.
Impact of Your Donation
