The Big Picture

Asia America Initiative's Community Service Scholarships are provided deserving students in communities plagued with poverty and armed conflict. These scholarships are vital to enabling bright Christian and Muslim youth from impoverished families in Mindanao, Philippines to achieve a college education. They become symbols of Hope and provide confidence that peace and development are possible.

Currently, 37 scholars enrolled in Mindanao State, Sulu State Universities and the privately run Notre Dame college. Students major in computer science, marketing, nursing, midwifery, business, entrepreneurship, agriculture and aquaculture.

Scholars repay their scholarships by displaying a strong spirit of volunteerism and dedication to serve their communities as they assist understaffed hospitals and overcrowded elementary schools each semester. $300 covers the cost of tuition, books, and exam fees for one student per semester.

Impact of Your Donation

Donations will be used to cover the costs of tuition and assorted fees, required textbooks, transportation and a small cost of living expense for each college scholar.

The average cost per student is $600 per student for a two-semester school year. Medical and nursing students pay higher tuition, textbook and laboratory fees.

Scholars and school officials are prepared to communicate with donor/sponsors and provide reports on their educational achievements.
