HIV affects an estimated 6.5% of people in Uganda, according to the UN. Despite this, few rural Ugandans get tested for HIV, even if they suspect that they are-positive, due to the cost and difficulty with transportation. Many villagers are also unaware of the ease with which free anti-retroviral medication and counseling can be procured from TASO, a Ugandan non-profit.
Working with local NGOs and health centers, Uganda Village Project brings HIV and STI counseling and testing directly into our villages. We also conduct sensitizations to raise awareness and teach villagers how to procure continued counseling and free anti-retroviral medication from a nearby TASO clinic. As part of our program, we also provide testing and treatment for syphilis, an easily treatable and potentially fatal STI. Because we work in partnership with other organizations, it only costs $230 to provide sensitization, testing and follow up outreaches to a whole village.
Give the gift of health to a village by donating $230 towards the cost of this valuable program.
