Winters are cold in Nepal and Papa's Houses do not have any insulation or heating. Each child is fitted with a sweater or sweatshirt and a winter jacket. Moreover, shoes or sneakers are purchased for each child. With the inevitable wear and tear and the natural growth of the children, each year a new sweater, winter jacket, and shoes must be purchased. The total cost of a sweater or sweatshirt, winter jacket, and pair of shoes for a child is $50 each year. Individually a sweater costs $10, a winter jacket costs $25, and a pair of shoes or sneakers costs $15.
