User Submitted Information
You may provide to UniversalGiving what is generally called "personally identifiable" information such as your name, physical or mailing address, e-mail address, personal/business/mobile telephone number, credit card information, billing information, job title and employment history.
Cookies are tiny text files that websites commonly write to your hard drive when you visit them so that they can remember you when you visit. UniversalGiving may use both session cookies and persistent cookies. A persistent cookie remains after you close your browser and may be used by your browser on subsequent visits to the UniversalGiving Site. By using these cookies, we can maintain your identity between sessions so that the UniversalGiving Site can be personalized based on your preferences or history. These persistent types of cookies can be removed. Each web browser implements different functionality, so please refer to the manuals or technical support resources that are available in conjunction with your web browser to learn the correct way to modify your cookies set-up. Please note that disabling cookies may prevent you from accessing some of the functionality and site offerings available via the UniversalGiving Site.
Automatically Collected Information
When you visit the UniversalGiving Site or open one of our HTML emails, we may record certain information from your web browser by using different types of technology, including "clear gifs" or "web beacons." This "automatically collected" information may include your Internet Protocol address ("IP Address"), web browser type, the web pages or sites that you visit just before or just after the UniversalGiving Site, the pages you view on the Site, and the dates and times that you visit.
HOW WE USE INFORMATION
UniversalGiving uses the information that we collect to provide you with all of the features and services found on the UniversalGiving Site, including our volunteering and donating opportunities.
We may use your submitted email address or other personally identifiable information in the following ways: (a) without further consent, for non-promotional or administrative purposes such as notifying you of Site updates; (b) to send promotional or fundraising messages, provided you have the opportunity to opt-out of receiving such messages; and (c) to provide you with our newsletters.
We also use all of the information we collect from our Users: (a) for purposes of operating and maintaining the UniversalGiving Site; (b) to understand usage trends and preferences; (c) to improve the way the Site works and looks; (d) to improve our promotional or fundraising efforts; (e) to create new features, content and functionality on the Site; and (f) to ensure that Users of the Site are abiding by our Terms of Service.
We may use automatically collected information to: (a) remember your information so that you do not have to re-enter it during your visit or the next time you visit the UniversalGiving Site; (b) monitor aggregate usage metrics such as total number of visitors and pages viewed; (c) provide custom, personalized content and information; and (d) monitor the effectiveness of our promotional and fundraising efforts.
As part of our referral program, we request personally identifiable information of our Users’ friends and family whom they think would like to receive information on UniversalGiving. The persons referred to us will be contacted only by our staff. We use and treat information our Users provide about their referrals in the same way we use and treat information about Users who register directly with UniversalGiving.
WHEN WE DISCLOSE INFORMATION
In the event that you decide to volunteer or donate money through the Site, we will share your information with other volunteers or our NGO partners in order to facilitate these processes. In addition, you may opt in to us disclosing your information to other Users in the course of your participation in various features or services on the Site.
We may share automatically collected and aggregate personally-identifiable information with interested third parties to assist them in understanding the usage patterns for certain content, services, advertisements, promotions and/or functionality on the UniversalGiving Site.
We may also share the information you provide to us if we reasonably believe that doing so is required by law or is in our interests to protect our property or other legal rights or the rights or property of others.
The UniversalGiving Site is not targeted at children under the age of thirteen (13) and we do not knowingly collect personally identifiable information from anyone under the age of thirteen (13) without requiring parental consent. Any person who provides information to UniversalGiving through the UniversalGiving Site represents that they are 13 years of age or older. THIRD PARTY SERVICE PROVIDERS
To protect your privacy and security, we take reasonable steps to verify User identity before granting Users profile access. YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR MAINTAINING THE SECRECY OF YOUR UNIQUE PASSWORD AND ACCOUNT INFORMATION AT ALL TIMES.
No data transmissions over the Internet can be guaranteed to be 100% secure. Consequently, we cannot ensure or warrant the security of any information you transmit to us and you do so at your own risk. Once we receive your transmission, we make reasonable efforts to ensure security on our systems. We employ encryption and firewalls to protect your information from unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration or destruction. However, please note that this is not a guarantee that such information may not be accessed, disclosed, altered or destroyed by breach of such firewalls and secure server software.
By using the UniversalGiving Site or providing personal information to us, you agree that we can communicate with you electronically regarding security, privacy and administrative issues relating to your use of the UniversalGiving Site. If a security breach occurs, we may post a notice on the UniversalGiving Site or send an email to you at any email address you may have provided to us. Depending on where you live, you may have a legal right to receive notice of a security breach in writing. To receive a free written notice of any security breaches (or to withdraw your consent from receiving electronic notice) you should notify us via email at email@example.com.
SPECIAL NOTE TO INTERNATIONAL USERS
The UniversalGiving Site is hosted in the United States. If you are a User accessing the UniversalGiving Site from the European Union, Asia or any other region with laws or regulations governing personal data collection, use and disclosure that differ from United States laws, please note that you are transferring your personal data to the United States which does not have the same data protection laws as the EU and other regions and by providing your personal data, you consent to:
the transfer of your personal data to the United States as indicated above.
CHANGING YOUR INFORMATION
How You Can Access Or Correct Your Information
If you have registered for an account, you may access and edit information that we collect and maintain online by logging onto your account and following the directions. We use this procedure to better safeguard your information. This procedure will automatically change the information contained in our database. If you have problems changing your information, please contact us at: (i) firstname.lastname@example.org if you are an individual User; or (ii) email@example.com if you represent an NGO.

IN THE EVENT OF MERGER OR SALE
If UniversalGiving should ever file for bankruptcy or have its assets sold to or merge with another entity, information UniversalGiving receives from you through the UniversalGiving Site is a UniversalGiving asset and may be transferred.
