UniversalGiving™ on CBS News

Pamela Hawley, Founder and CEO of UniversalGiving™, was recently awarded the Jefferson Award and featured on CBS Nightly News for her global philanthropic work.

Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, U.S. Senator Robert Taft, Jr. and Sam Beard founded the American Institute for Public Service to establish the Jefferson Award, a Nobel Prize for Public and Community Service.

The Jefferson Awards are presented to ordinary people who do extraordinary things. By honoring the recipients, it is the goal of the Jefferson Awards to inspire others to become involved in community and public service. Past recipients include Bill & Melinda Gates, Lance Armstrong, and Oprah Winfrey.

An excerpt from the interview:

Pamela Hawley is busy these days building her business, which is no simple task considering her business is changing the world. "What my motive is: to create a world where giving and volunteering are a natural part of everyone's everyday life," Pamela explains.

So to help get people started, she's created a web site, a kind of non-profit marketplace called UniversalGiving. With the click of a button, the UniversalGiving website connects people with vetted programs around the globe where you can volunteer or donate money.
